Noel Oppliger is a Zurich-based designer whose practice is chiefly informed by the flattening effects of algorithms on cultural production. His work spans video, 3D, art direction, graphic, motion, and product design, combining crafty, hands-on processes with AI-driven tools to create uber-seductive yet uncanny results. Distilling the cold, anonymous sheen of Swiss bureaucracy and the materiality of non-things such as our networked devices, Oppliger's projects coalesce glossy, reflective surfaces and the guts of our fabricated yearnings. His color palette is muted; refreshingly dull even. It is the opposite of attention-grabbing, stemming from a thorough engagement with the logics and techniques of advertising, and fashion photography.
